Brow Lift

What is a Brow Lift?

When you look in the mirror, does your face reflect your feelings? Your eyes and forehead play a prominent role in communicating your emotions. If a sagging, heavy brow is making you look tired or unhappy, Brow Lift cosmetic surgery could provide a lasting solution.

A Brow Lift rejuvenates the face above the eyes to restore a more refreshed appearance that better mirrors your natural vibrancy. By removing excess slackened skin on the forehead and repositioning the underlying muscles and tissues, a Brow Lift can correct a heavy, sagging brow, eliminate deep furrows, and restore a smoother, more youthful contour to the upper one-third of the face. If you’re genetically inclined to have a heavier, thicker brow, you may appear to be wearing a frown even when you’re feeling your best. A brow lift can create a more youthful and pleasant expression that matches how you feel on the inside.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Most patients who are bothered by drooping or sagging brows are good candidates for a brow lift. It is important to remember that a brow lift will not address aging signs in the lower parts of the face or excess skin in the eyelids, which is why Dr. Maxwell may suggest pairing your brow lift with other procedures such as a blepharoplasty or facelift to complete your rejuvenation results.

Before your brow lift, Dr. Maxwell will evaluate your health history and review any medications or supplements you take to ensure that surgery is a safe option for you. It is also best if you are a non-smoker to allow for faster and more successful recovery outcomes.

How is a Brow Lift Performed?

The Brow Lift can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation and typically takes one to two hours. Because the upper face ages together with the lower face, the Brow Lift is often combined with the Facelift.

Brow lift incisions are typically made along the hairline. Dr. Maxwell may use an endoscopic incision technique, in which smaller incisions are made through the hairline through which a small camera can be placed to guide adjustments, or a coronal incision, which is a larger incision made across the top of the head from ear to ear to make more extensive adjustments. In either case, scars are well-hidden within the hair. Once the skin has been lifted and the tissues have been manipulated for a more youthful look, incisions can be closed using sutures or skin adhesives.

Brow Lift Recovery and Results

Recovery time for the Brow Lift is similar to that of the Facelift: 10 to 14 days, with some bruising and swelling around the eyes. You may be prescribed a pain medication to keep comfortable throughout recovery. Keeping your head elevated as you rest can help reduce swelling.

The hairline will change following a Brow Lift, and Dr. Maxwell will discuss this with you prior to surgery. Some numbness in the scalp occurs, which persists for variable periods of time.
