Med Spa – Laser Treatments

What is BBL?

BroadBand Light (BBL) is the world’s most powerful photofacial device on the market. It sets new standards in treating skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles, and sun damage. BBL has the ability to provide dermal renewal and the treatment of pigmented lesions, vascular lesions and acne. BBL requires fewer treatments to achieve visible and superior results than other systems.

Who is a Good Candidate for BBL?

BBL may be a suitable option for you if you are concerned about common issues like age spots, sun damage, redness, or rosacea. However, the treatment is not suitable for those who have darker skin tones. This is because the light used to complete a BBL treatment targets pigmentation within the skin, meaning that it can damage darker skin tones or cause hyperpigmentation. Those with lighter skin tones are better candidates, and should not pursue the treatment if they have a suntan. During your consultation at Maxwell Aesthetics, your skincare specialist will review your concerns and evaluate your skin type and tone to determine whether BBL is safe for you. Other options, such as Halo laser, may be a better fit for your unique needs.

The BBL Procedure

Preparation

Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a clear gel is then applied. You will also be given eye protection to wear throughout your BBL treatment.

Light Application

The BBL device is passed along the skin, directing flashes of light to the treatment area.

Targeting and Repair

The light works to damage pigment, visible blood vessels, or other tissues that contribute to skin concerns. As a result, the body will work to repair the skin and remove the damaged tissues, resulting in clearer, healthier, and more youthful-looking skin.

Post-Treatment Care

Your skincare specialist will apply SPF to the treated area, and you can return home.

Recovery and Results from BBL Treatment

BBL treatments do not require downtime. After treatment, you will likely see some redness, slight swelling, and small brown spots on the skin. These brown spots will grow darker over time as they reach the skin’s surface before falling away naturally about 5-7 days after BBL treatment. It is important to avoid sun exposure and wear SPF after your BBL treatment.

Despite these side effects, you will see immediate improvement in sun spots, rosacea, and acne. Many patients have multiple BBL treatment sessions to reach their ideal results. Your skin care specialist will likely recommend at least three BBL sessions as well as yearly maintenance to keep up with and improve upon your results.
